Salvia splendens, commonly known as bonfire salvia, is a tender herbaceous perennial native to Brazil. It thrives in warm, humid environments at elevations of 2,000 to 3,000 m. The wild form can grow up to 1.3 m tall, while smaller cultivars are widely cultivated as bedding plants globally.

Description

Salvia splendens belongs to the Lamiaceae family and was published in 1821. While the wild form is rarely seen in cultivation, various cultivars are commonly used in public spaces and gardens. The plant is distributed across several regions including Brazil, Argentina, Bangladesh, and parts of Europe and Asia. It is also known as scarlet sage.
