Bolbitis heudelotii, known as the African water fern, creeping fern, and Congo fern, is a fern species native to subtropical and tropical Africa, ranging from Ethiopia west to Senegal and as far south as northern South Africa.

Description

Bolbitis heudelotii is a herbaceous fern in the family Dryopteridaceae. It has a thick rhizome covered with dark brown scales and creeps along rocks, with numerous roots. Sterile fronds measure 30–80 cm in length and are linear to elliptical in shape. Fertile fronds are 25–100 cm long, linear, and bear sporangia on their abaxial surface. The species is distributed across the Afrotropical region, including countries such as Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, and others. It was first described in 1934.
