The fruit excretes a sticky white latex when cut or damaged.
Description
Maclura pomifera is a member of the mulberry family (Moraceae). It is characterized by its multiple fruit, which is roughly spherical, bumpy, and 8 to 15 cm in diameter. The species was first described in 1906. Despite its common name, it is not related to citrus fruits. It is commonly referred to as bodark in English and other languages.
