Argemone albiflora, known as bluestem pricklypoppy, is a small erect plant with white flowers and yellow latex. It has sharp prickles on its stem and leaves, and yellow or red stamens. The sepals fall off as the flower develops. It grows in arid regions of the southern Midwest, along roadsides and disturbed areas. The plant has been used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes.

Description

Argemone albiflora belongs to the genus Argemone in the family Papaveraceae. It is found in various regions including ZA, Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Morocco, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin. First described in 1815 by Hornem., the plant is characterized by its deeply rooted system and distinctive prickles. It is commonly known as white prickly poppy or Texas prickly poppy.
