Dichorisandra thyrsiflora, known as blue-ginger, is a species of tropical flowering plant in the family Commelinaceae. Native to the tropical woodlands of North, Central, and South America, it is particularly associated with the Atlantic Forest vegetation in Brazil. The plant is characterized by its spotted stems, large horizontal foliage, and striking blue flowers. It is cultivated for ornamental purposes.

Description

Dichorisandra thyrsiflora is found in regions including Itacolomi State Park, Calais, MG, Brazil, as well as other parts of Brazil and neighboring countries. It is associated with campo rupestre vegetation, a type of high-altitude, open vegetation typical of rocky outcrops in Brazil. The species was first described in 1820 by J.C. Mikan. It resembles ginger in growth and habit but is taxonomically related to the spiderworts. The plant is valued for its ornamental qualities, including its distinctive foliage and showy blue flowers.
