Pinus ponderosa, known as blackjack pine, is a large pine species native to western North America and widely distributed across various regions. It belongs to the family Pinaceae and was published in 1836 by Douglas ex C.Lawson.

Pinus ponderosa is a large pine species native to the mountainous regions of western North America. It is the most widely distributed pine in North America and is found in a variety of habitats. The species has been introduced to and is now present in regions such as TR, RU, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Great Britain, DK, Flemish Region, AR, Denmark, European part of Russia, Spain, Sweden, England, Scotland, Wales, SE, RO, and AM. It is commonly known as the ponderosa pine or western yellow pine in English.
