Description

Ochna serrulata (Hochst.) Walp., from the Ochnaceae family, is a plant species originally found in South Africa. It is widely grown in gardens in southern Africa for ornamental purposes. However, it has also been introduced to several regions beyond its native range, including Madeira, India, Australia, New Zealand, Lord Howe Island, the United States, Cambodia, the Cape Provinces, Florida, the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho, Norfolk Island, the Northern Provinces, and Swaziland. While appreciated for its aesthetic qualities, it has become an invasive species in Australia and New Zealand. First described in 1846, this plant is known for its adaptability and spread in various environments.
