Bigleaf Hydrangea

Hydrangea macrophylla (Thunb.) Ser. is a species of flowering plant in the Hydrangeaceae family. It is native to Japan and grows as a deciduous shrub reaching 3 m in height and 2.5 m in width. The plant produces large clusters of pink or blue flowers during summer and autumn. Common names include Bigleaf Hydrangea, with specific cultivar groups referred to as lacecap, mophead, or hortensia. It is widely cultivated in various climates around the world. The plant is currently treated as monotypic, meaning it has no recognized subspecies or varieties. It should not be confused with H. aspera 'Macrophylla'. The species was first described in 1830 and is found in regions including Açores, Madeira, Portugal Continental, and other islands in the Atlantic, as well as in countries such as TR, TW, ZA, SC, HR, and Belgium.
