Bertolonia kollmannii is a herbaceous species in the family Melastomataceae, native to the border region of Bahia and Minas Gerais in Brazil. It grows in montane rainforests on moist, shaded slopes near water. The species is characterized by small, ovate, bullate leaves with acute apices and crenate margins, pink petals with an obtuse apex, and cream-colored anthers dehiscing through an extrorse pore. It is distinct from B. wurdackiana by its smaller leaf size, pink petals, and anther dehiscence pattern.

Description

Bertolonia kollmannii is a low-growing herb (10–15 cm tall) found in montane rainforests. It has a rounded stem (1–2 mm wide) with glandulose-punctate and glandulose-villose trichomes. Leaves are opposite, with petioles 1–4 cm long and ovate, bullate blades (2.4–5.5 × 1.6–4.7 cm), with a cordate base, acute apex, and crenate margins. The adaxial surface is green and sparsely to moderately glandulose, while the abaxial surface is vinaceous. Inflorescences are terminal and bear fimbriate sepals and pink petals (5.5–7 mm long) with an obtuse apex. Anthers are cream-colored and dehisce through an extrorse pore. The species is distinguished from B. wurdackiana by smaller leaves, pink petals, and anther dehiscence. It flowers in February and August, and fruits in February, April, and August.
