Lilium grayi is a perennial plant native to the eastern United States, specifically found in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. It thrives in moist, acidic soils within the Appalachian Mountains, particularly in higher elevation meadows, bogs, and seeps. The species was introduced to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in 1890 and was highlighted in the Kew Bulletin in 1892.

Description

Lilium grayi, commonly known as bell lily, is a member of the Liliaceae family. It is endemic to the Appalachian region, where it grows in specific habitats such as bogs and meadows at higher elevations. The plant was first described by S. Watson in 1879 and has since been documented in botanical collections, including its introduction to Kew Gardens in 1890.
