It is found in regions including CY, IT, GR, TR, Atlántico, Bolívar, La Guajira, Magdalena, Sucre, NO, KR, Vermont-US, Afghanistan, Alabama, Algeria, Angola, Argentina Northeast, Argentina Northwest, Argentina South, Arizona, Arkansas, Bahamas, and Bangladesh. This species prefers habitats with high salinity and moisture, such as salt marshes and shallow waterlogged areas. It was first described in 1817.
