Frangula purshiana (DC.) A.Gray ex J.G.Cooper is a member of the Rhamnaceae family, also referred to as the buckthorn family. It is indigenous to western North America, occurring in regions such as British Columbia, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The plant is known by the common name Bearberry in English. Its distribution extends into the northeastern part of Mexico as well. The species was formally published in 1857.
