Nertera granadensis (Mutis ex L.f.) Druce

Nertera granadensis is a plant in the Rubiaceae family, commonly known as beadplant. It is characterized by its orange berries and is part of the genus Nertera. This species has a broad transcontinental distribution, spanning from southern Chile and western Argentina to Guatemala, as well as in Hawaii, New Zealand, eastern Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Taiwan. It is often cultivated as ground-cover and is found at high altitudes in the tropical western Pacific. It also occurs on the Juan Fernández Islands. The name 'granadensis' is derived from New Granada, the historical name for Colombia.
Description
Nertera granadensis is a member of the Rubiaceae family and is known for its small orange berries. The plant is cultivated as an ornamental and is referred to as rucachucao in Mapudungun and Chilean Spanish. Its presence in the Pacific is limited to high-altitude tropical biomes.
