It also occurs in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Italy, Norway, and Sweden. The species was first published in 1815 and is recognized by its golden-yellow flowers. It is a low-growing, mat-forming plant often found in rocky or well-drained soils.
