The species is native to several regions including Açores, Madeira, Portugal Continental, and various islands such as Faial, Graciosa, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira, Desertas, Madeira Island, and Porto Santo. It is also found in countries such as Russia, South Africa, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Denmark.
Description
Heliotropium europaeum is a plant species in the genus Heliotropium, part of the Heliotropiaceae family. It is commonly referred to as barooga-weed and is known by the alternative common names European heliotrope and European turn-sole. The species has a wide distribution across several islands in the Atlantic and parts of Europe. There is a historical note regarding the type specimen, where Kazmi cited a collection that was not available to Linnaeus at the time of the original publication in 1753.
