Canavalia brasiliensis is a species of Fabaceae native to regions in South and Central America, as well as parts of the Caribbean and the southeastern United States. It is characterized by its vine-like growth, axillary racemose inflorescences, and pink papilionaceous flowers. The species produces linear legumes with glabrous brown epicarps and elliptic brown seeds. It is found in various conservation units, including the semi-arid region of Paraíba, Brazil.

Description

Canavalia brasiliensis is a climbing vine with tomentulous branches and inermous stems. It has imparipinnate leaves with three opposite ovate leaflets. The flowers are zygomorphic with a gamosepalous calyx of four sepals and a pink, papilionaceous corolla of five petals. The androecium is diadelphous with heterodinamous anthers, and the ovary is superior, sessile, and pluriovulate. The fruit is a linear legume with a straight margin and a glabrous brown epicarp. The seeds are elliptic, plane, with a brown coat and a basal hilum. This species is distinguished by its vine habit, lateral stipules, and winged streaks on the legume margins.
