Parkinsonia aculeata is a flowering tree in the Fabaceae family, commonly known as Barbados flowerfence. It is native to regions in South America, including Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, and others, as well as parts of Central America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The species was first described in 1753 by Linnaeus.
Description
This perennial tree is known by several common names, including palo verde, Mexican palo verde, Parkinsonia, Jerusalem thorn, jelly bean tree, palo de rayo, and retama. It is characterized by its yellow flowers and green, photosynthetic stems. Parkinsonia aculeata is widely distributed across tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Brazil, the Easter Islands, and countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
