Pinus peuce, known as Balkan Pine, is a pine species native to the mountainous regions of North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia, and Greece. It typically grows at altitudes of 1,000–2,200 m and can reach the alpine tree line. The tree can grow up to 35–40 m in height with a trunk diameter of 1.5 m, though it may become smaller near the upper tree line.

Description

Pinus peuce belongs to the Pinaceae family and is part of the genus Pinus. It is distributed across several European countries, including Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and others. The species was first described in 1846. In higher elevations, the tree may take on a shrub-like form. It is commonly referred to as Balkan Pine in English and other languages.
