Balanites roxburghii is a spiny, evergreen tree native to India, found in open sandy plains across the Indian peninsula, western Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and other drier regions. It belongs to the family Zygophyllaceae and was named after the Scottish botanist William Roxburgh.

Description

Balanites roxburghii, described by Planch. in 1854, is a member of the genus Balanites within the Zygophyllaceae family. This tree is commonly found in arid and semi-arid areas of India, particularly in sandy and open landscapes. It is characterized by its spiny, evergreen structure, which helps it adapt to dry conditions. The species is named in honor of William Roxburgh, a notable Scottish botanist.
