Juniperus brevifolia (Seub.) Antoine

Juniperus brevifolia, the Azores Juniper, is a species native to the Azores archipelago, occurring from sea level to elevations of 1,500 m. It is closely related to Juniperus oxycedrus and Juniperus cedrus. The species is threatened by habitat loss.
Description
Juniperus brevifolia (Seub.) Antoine is a member of the Cupressaceae family and is found on several islands in the Azores, including Corvo, Faial, Flores, Pico, Santa Maria, São Jorge, São Miguel, and Terceira. It is closely related to Juniperus oxycedrus, native to the Mediterranean, and Juniperus cedrus, found in the neighboring Macaronesian islands. The species was first described in 1857. Its natural range is limited to the Azores, where it is under threat due to habitat degradation and loss.
