Description
Axonopus graniticola is a perennial, densely caespitose grass with very short falciform rhizomes. The culms are 95-125 cm long, erect to decumbent, and unbranched. Leaves are distichous and mostly caulinar, with sheaths that are conduplicate, strongly keeled, and scabrous. The leaf blades are 12-32 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, oblong to linear, and deciduous. Inflorescences are two per flowering culm, with panicles 12-26 cm long in dense clusters of racemes. The species is distinguished by its caulinar leaves, laterally compressed sheaths, leaf blades with a subcordate base, and multi-racemose inflorescences with 26-75 racemes. The species name refers to its occurrence on exposed granite rock outcrops.
