Curcuma australasica, also known as Australian Wild Turmeric, is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. It is native to regions including the Caroline Islands, Maluku, New Guinea, the Northern Territory, and Queensland. The species was first described in 1867 by Hook.f.

Description

Curcuma australasica is a member of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and is commonly referred to as Australian Wild Turmeric. It is a rhizomatous herb that grows as a perennial plant. The species is distributed across several regions in the Pacific and Southeast Asia, including the Caroline Islands, Maluku, New Guinea, the Northern Territory, and Queensland. It was formally described in 1867 by the botanist Hook.f.
