Oryza australiensis, known as Australian Rice, is a wild rice species native to monsoonal northern Australia. It is a perennial plant in the Poaceae family and uses the C3 photosynthesis pathway. This species is notable for its resistance to abiotic stresses, especially heat, and possesses the largest genome among the Oryza genus.

Description

Oryza australiensis is found in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia, as well as in the broader Australasian and global regions. It was first described in 1915 by Domin. This species is unique within the genus for its resilience to environmental stressors and its large genome size, making it of interest for scientific study and potential agricultural applications.
