Dipogon lignosus is a member of the Fabaceae family, known in some regions as the okie bean or Cape sweet-pea. It is a monotypic genus, with no other species classified within it. The plant's distribution spans several countries and regions, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and parts of South America. The taxonomic history of the species includes a clarification of its type material, with a designation of a neotype by Stirton in 1981, though the original material from the Hortus Clijfortianus was previously designated as the type by Stearn in 1957.
