Asystasia mysorensis is a species in the Acanthaceae family, native to various regions in Africa and parts of Asia. It is utilized as a leafy vegetable, particularly by the Kikuyu community, where it is incorporated into traditional dishes such as 'mukimo'.

Description

Asystasia mysorensis, described by T.Anderson in 1867, is a member of the Acanthaceae family. It is distributed across Botswana, Burundi, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Mozambique, Namibia, Northern Provinces, Rwanda, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen, Zambia, Zaïre, and Zimbabwe. The plant is consumed as a leafy vegetable and is known locally by the Kikuyu as 'muhika na ihuu'. It is used in the preparation of 'mukimo', a traditional dish.
