Astronium lecointei is a hardwood timber tree native to Brazil. It is grouped with two other species of Astronium under the Portuguese name Gonçalo alves, also known as tigerwood.
Description
Astronium lecointei, described by Ducke in 1922, is a member of the Anacardiaceae family. It is found in several regions including Brazil (Northeast, North, West-Central), Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, and the Río Claro basin. It is known for its use as a source of hardwood timber and is part of a group of species in the Astronium genus referred to as Gonçalo alves or tigerwood in Portuguese.
