Astelia pumila (J.R.Forst.) Gaudich., from the family Asteliaceae, is an evergreen silver-green perennial native to southern Chile, Argentina, and the Falkland Islands. It thrives in forested and wetland habitats, particularly in cushion bogs along the Pacific coast. It co-dominates these bogs with Donatia fascicularis and is typically found in areas where Sphagnum does not grow. The species is distributed across Queulat National Park, Chonos Archipelago, Taitao Peninsula, San Rafael Lake, Caleta Tortel, and Tierra del Fuego National Park.

Description

Astelia pumila is a flowering plant in the family Asteliaceae. It is native to the southern regions of Chile and Argentina, as well as the Falkland Islands. The plant is adapted to wetland and forest environments, especially cushion bogs along the Pacific coast. It is a dominant species in these bogs, often occurring alongside Donatia fascicularis. Unlike Sphagnum, which tends to grow more inland, A. pumila is found in coastal areas. Its distribution spans from Queulat National Park in the north to Tierra del Fuego National Park in the south, with localities including the Chonos Archipelago, Taitao Peninsula, San Rafael Lake, and Caleta Tortel.
