Astelia fragrans, known as bush lily, bush flax, or kakaha, is a widespread species in New Zealand. It is found in both the North and South Islands, growing from sea level up to about 900 meters in elevation. This plant is the most common member of the genus Astelia in the region.

Description

Astelia fragrans belongs to the family Asteliaceae and was first described by Colenso in 1883. It is a common plant in New Zealand, where it is adapted to a wide range of elevations. The species is recognized by its grass-like leaves and is often found in forested areas and along stream banks. It is a significant component of the local flora and is known by several common names, including bush lily, bush flax, and kakaha.
