Aspidosperma triternatum is a species in the Apocynaceae family, native to Argentina and Paraguay. It was first described by Rojas Acosta in 1913. Due to the absence of original material in the protologue, a neotype was designated under the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) to stabilize the taxonomic reference. The neotype specimen (MBM No. 45298) includes material with follicles.

Description

The species lacks a nomenclatural type in the original description, prompting the selection of a neotype under ICN article 9.13. The neotype, based on a specimen with follicles, was chosen to clarify the taxonomic status of A. triternatum. The species is part of the genus Aspidosperma, which is distributed across several South American countries. Its range includes Argentina (Northeast and Northwest), Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil. Taxonomic studies have also addressed related varieties, such as A. quebracho-blanco var. ellipticum, where a lectotype was selected from duplicate specimens due to the unavailability of the original material.
