Aspidosperma tomentosum is a timber tree native to Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. It is common in the Cerrado vegetation of Brazil. The species was first described by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius in 1824.

Description

Aspidosperma tomentosum belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is found in several regions of Brazil, including the Northeast, North, Southeast, South, and West-Central, as well as in Bolivia and Paraguay. The original description of the species was based on a single collection made by Martius, later designated as the lectotype. The species has been associated with several varieties and synonyms, including A. tomentosum var. angustifolium and A. pallidiflorum, for which lectotypes have also been designated. These designations follow the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN).
