Aspidosperma spruceanum

Aspidosperma spruceanum is a flowering plant species in the Apocynaceae family, native to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and the Guianas. It was first described in 1860 by Müller-Argoviensis, based on a collection by Spruce. The species is found in various protected areas in Colombia, including the Serranía de Chiribiquete National Park and the Guanentá Sanctuary. A lectotype was selected for A. spruceanum due to the absence of a specified type herbarium in the original description. The species is part of a genus that includes other Aspidosperma species, such as A. igapoanum, which also required typification due to multiple specimens in the original collection.
Description
Aspidosperma spruceanum is a member of the Apocynaceae family and is distributed across Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and the Guianas. It was first published by Müller-Argoviensis in 1860, with the type specimen based on Spruce's collection. The lectotype for A. spruceanum was selected as C barcode C 10005745, following ICN guidelines, as the original description did not specify the herbarium where the type was deposited. In related taxonomic work, the species A. igapoanum was also typified, with a second-step lectotype chosen from the RB herbarium. The species is found in several protected areas in Colombia, including the Reserva Nacional Natural Puinawai and the Santuario de Flora y Fauna Guanentá. The genus Aspidosperma includes other species such as A. igapoanum, which was described later and required further clarification of its type specimens.
