Aspidosperma nobile
Aspidosperma nobile Müll.Arg.
Aspidosperma nobile Müll.Arg., a species in the Apocynaceae family, was first described in 1860. The type specimen was initially designated as 'St.-Hilaire 760' by Woodson (1951), but further typification was required due to multiple specimens in the collection. The best-preserved specimen (P 00639581) was selected as the second-step lectotype under the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN). The species is distributed in Brazil, including the Southeast and West-Central regions, as well as Bolivia.
Description
Aspidosperma nobile is a member of the genus Aspidosperma within the Apocynaceae family. The species was originally described by Müller-Argoviensis in 1860. The type specimen was later narrowed down to a single, best-preserved specimen from the 'St.-Hilaire 760' collection, following ICN guidelines. This process of typification was necessary to clarify the nomenclatural status of the species. The species is native to Brazil and Bolivia, specifically in the Southeast and West-Central regions of Brazil. Taxonomic discussions surrounding A. nobile have focused on clarifying the type material and ensuring nomenclatural stability in the genus.
