Aspidosperma inundatum
Aspidosperma inundatum Ducke
Aspidosperma inundatum is a species in the genus Aspidosperma of the Apocynaceae family, first described by Ducke in 1922. It is native to northern Brazil. The holotype is voucher number 17195 in the Museu Paraense herbarium (MG). The species is distinguished by leaves with shorter petioles (1–1.5 cm) and sessile, smooth follicles with conspicuous lenticels, differing from A. acanthocarpum, which is currently treated as 'incertae sedis' due to insufficient data.
Description
Aspidosperma inundatum was described by Ducke in 1922, based on the specimen labeled as 'A. Ducke 13 - 8 - 1918 flor. et fructibus vetustis, n. 17195' in the Museu Paraense herbarium (MG). The holotype is a single sheet identified by number 17195. The species is part of the Apocynaceae family and is found in northern Brazil. Morphologically, it is characterized by leaves with petioles 1–1.5 cm long and follicles that are sessile, smooth, and have prominent lenticels. These traits distinguish it from A. acanthocarpum, which has longer petioles (2 cm) and stipitated, verrucose follicles with inconspicuous lenticels. Woodson (1951) proposed A. acanthocarpum as a synonym of A. inundatum, but this classification is not accepted due to the observed differences. At present, A. acanthocarpum is considered 'incertae sedis' due to insufficient evidence for synonymy.
