Aspidosperma dispermum
Aspidosperma dispermum Müll.Arg.
Aspidosperma dispermum is a species in the Apocynaceae family, described by Müller-Argoviensis in 1860. The type specimen was selected from the Riedel 1091 collection as a lectotype. A. ellipsocarpum is considered a synonym of A. dispermum due to shared morphological traits.
Description
Aspidosperma dispermum (Müll.Arg.) is a member of the Apocynaceae family, first published in 1860. The original description by Müller-Argoviensis cited the Riedel 1091 collection but did not specify the herbarium where the type was deposited. A specimen from this collection (G 00169291) was later selected as the lectotype. A. ellipsocarpum, described by Duarte (1968), was based on the Duarte 9664 collection in the RB herbarium. Three sheets (RB 00535036, 00813265, 00813266) were determined to represent a single specimen. Morphological similarities, including crenulate leaf margins, craspedodromous venation, long petioles, corolla lobes equal to or longer than the tube, and sessile, broadly fusiform follicles, led to the conclusion that A. ellipsocarpum is a synonym of A. dispermum.
