Aspidosperma cylindrocarpon is a species in the Apocynaceae family, native to Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Peru. It is found in the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, and Pantanal regions of Brazil and is cited in Flora Brasiliensis. The species was first described by Müller-Argoviensis in 1860, with the type specimen collected by Sellow during his third expedition to Brazil. The lectotype for A. cylindrocarpon was selected following ICN guidelines due to multiple specimens in the original collection. The species is also used in beekeeping.
Description
Aspidosperma cylindrocarpon is a tree species in the Apocynaceae family, distributed across Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Peru. It is commonly found in the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado, and Pantanal ecosystems. The species was first described by Müller-Argoviensis in 1860, based on a collection by Sellow during his third journey to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais. The original collection was associated with the locality of Ipanema in São Paulo. Due to the presence of multiple specimens in the original gathering, a lectotype was selected following ICN rules. The species is also noted for its utility in beekeeping and is recorded in Flora Brasiliensis by Martius.
