Cornus officinalis, known as the Japanese cornel or Asiatic dogwood, is a flowering plant in the family Cornaceae. It is native to China, Korea, and Japan. It is often confused with C. mas, also called the Cornelian cherry, but is not closely related to the cherries of the genus Prunus.

Description

Cornus officinalis is a species of flowering plant in the dogwood family Cornaceae. It is found in North-Central and Southeast China, Japan, and Korea. The plant is commonly referred to as the Japanese cornel or Asiatic dogwood. It should not be mistaken for C. mas, another species known as the Cornelian cherry. Unlike true cherries, which belong to the genus Prunus, Cornus officinalis is not closely related to them.
