Commelina communis L., known as Asiatic Dayflower, is an herbaceous annual plant in the Commelinaceae family. Native to East Asia and northern Southeast Asia, it has been introduced to parts of Europe and eastern North America, where it has become a noxious weed. It thrives in disturbed areas and moist soil, blooming from summer to fall with two large blue petals and one small white petal.

Description

The plant is commonly found in regions such as Ontario, Quebec, Colombia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and others. In China, it is known as yazhicao, and in Japan as tsuyukusa. Its flowers are short-lived, lasting only one day, which contributes to its common name. Commelina communis is widely distributed and has become naturalized in many areas outside its native range.
