Arum pictum, a species in the Araceae family, is the only autumn-flowering member of the genus Arum. It is native to regions including the Baleares, Corse, Italy, and Sardegna. First described in 1782, it is characterized by its tuberous growth habit and distinctive inflorescence with a strong odor.

Description

Arum pictum is a tuberous herb that emerges in early to mid-autumn from a discoid vertical tuber. The plant features a semi-terete petiole and an ovate-cordate leaf blade with a deep metallic green color and prominent veins. The inflorescence, which appears before or alongside the leaves, has a strong, unpleasant odor. The spathe is marked with purple spots and staining, while the spadix and appendix are deep purple. This species is unique within its genus for its autumn flowering.
