Syagrus schizophylla is a member of the Arecaceae family, commonly referred to as the palm family. It is found in the northeastern and southeastern regions of Brazil, as well as in Trinidad and Tobago. The species was first published in 1968 by (Mart.) Glassman. The common name for this palm is arikury palm in both English and the target language. Its distribution is limited to the specified regions, where it grows in suitable habitats typical for palms of the Syagrus genus.
