Arabidopsis suecica (Fr.) Norrl. ex O.E.Schulz

Arabidopsis suecica is a cruciferous plant in the Brassicaceae family. It is native to Sweden, Finland, and parts of European Russia, with a distribution extending to Denmark, Norway, the Baltic States, East and North European Russia, Germany, and Northwest European Russia. Originally described by Elias Magnus Fries in 1846 as a subspecies of Arabis thaliana, it was elevated to species status by Johan Petter Norrlin in 1878. It was later moved to the genus Hylandra in 1961 by Áskell Löve, but as of March 2024, Hylandra is considered a synonym of Arabidopsis by Plants of the World Online.
Description
Arabidopsis suecica is a species of the Brassicaceae family, native to northern and eastern Europe. It was first described in 1846 as a subspecies of Arabis thaliana by Elias Magnus Fries. In 1878, Johan Petter Norrlin reclassified it as a distinct species. The species was later assigned to the genus Hylandra in 1961 by Áskell Löve, but this classification is not currently accepted, and the plant remains in the genus Arabidopsis. It is found in Sweden, Finland, parts of European Russia, and has been introduced to neighboring regions such as Denmark, Norway, the Baltic States, and Germany. The species has a long history of taxonomic revision, reflecting its complex classification over time.
