Aquarius tunicatus is an aquatic plant species in the family Alismataceae, native to Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panamá, and Peru. It was formally described in 2018 under the authors Christenh. & Byng, with the scientific name revised from its former placement in the genus Echinodorus.

Description

Aquarius tunicatus belongs to the Alismataceae family, commonly known as the water plantain family. It is an aquatic herb that grows in freshwater habitats. The species was previously classified under the genus Echinodorus but was later reclassified into the genus Aquarius. This reclassification reflects updated taxonomic understanding based on morphological and genetic evidence. The plant is distributed across several countries in South and Central America, including Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panamá, and Peru. The species was officially published in 2018 by Christenh. & Byng, following the original description by Small.
