Aponogeton lakhonensis is a species of aquatic plant in the Aponogetonaceae family, characterized by a yellow-flowered single spike that rises above the water. It is found in ricefields, ponds, and slow-moving streams across tropical and sub-tropical Asia. The species is distributed from Thailand to China and Assam, with an outlier population in Sulawesi. It is more closely related to tropical Australian species of Aponogeton than to other Southeast Asian species.
Description
Aponogeton lakhonensis is native to several regions including Assam, Cambodia, China South-Central, China Southeast, Hainan, Laos, Myanmar, Sulawesi, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The plant is used as a food source in some areas, with the whole plant consumed in salads in Thailand and the leaves served with fish sauce in Cambodia. It was first described in 1910 by A. Camus.
