Anubias barteri is a West African species of the Araceae family, first described in 1860 by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott. It is found in Cameroon, Nigeria, and on Bioko. The plant has a thick, creeping rhizome and produces green, narrow leaves that range from 7 to 30 cm in length and 3 to 15 cm in width. It is a hardy herb with a prostrate growth habit and is strongly rooted.

Description

Anubias barteri has a creeping stem that is 2-3 lines thick and glabrous. The leaves are erect, variable in shape, and glabrous on the upper surface. The petiole is 2-11 inches long and slender, with a sheath 1-1.5 inches long. The blade is 2.75-8 inches long and 1.25-4 inches broad, ovate or ovate-lanceolate in shape. The inflorescence includes a peduncle 2.5-7 inches long, a spathe 1-1.25 inches long and oblong in shape, and a spadix 1-1.25 inches long and cylindrical. The female part of the spadix is 2.5-6 lines long. The ovary is depressed-globose, the style is short, and the stigma is discoid.
