Fontinalis antipyretica, also known as Antifever Fontinalis Moss, is a species of aquatic moss in the family Fontinalaceae. It is found in freshwater habitats across Europe, North America, and parts of Africa and Asia. The species was first described in 1801 by Hedw.
Description
Fontinalis antipyretica is a submerged aquatic moss that inhabits both still and flowing freshwater environments. It is distributed across regions including Labrador, Québec, the Azores, Flanders, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Belgium, and various parts of the United States. This moss is part of the genus Fontinalis and is one of the more widespread species within its family. It is commonly found in northern and central Europe, as well as in many Canadian provinces and U.S. states, excluding the most southern regions. The species is known for its ecological presence in freshwater ecosystems and is a member of the subclass Bryidae.
