This species is distributed across northern South America, with records from Brazil's Amazonas region, Colombia's Amazonia nororiental, including Caquetá, Vaupés, and the Guainía department, as well as the municipality of Inírida. It is also found in Venezuela. The species was formally described in 1886 by Benth. ex Wittm. and is part of the genus Anthodiscus, which includes several tree species native to the Neotropics.
