The plant has oppositely arranged leaves varying in shape and size, and produces flowers with a white, tubular corolla that has a blue or purple tint. The flowers grow in the upper leaf axils and have a calyx of five narrow sepals. The fruit is a capsule containing yellow seeds. It is native to the Americas and has been introduced to other continents.

Description

Lindernia dubia is found in wet habitats such as riverbanks, pond margins, and meadows. It is native to much of the Americas, from Canada to Chile, and is also present in regions such as Portugal, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Great Britain. The plant is sometimes classified under the families Scrophulariaceae and Plantaginaceae, but is now primarily placed in Linderniaceae. The species was published in 1935 and is an illegitimate replacement name for Gratiola dubia L. (1753). The plant is characterized by its variable leaf morphology and distinctive flowers with a white to bluish corolla and a three-lobed lower lip.
