Dendropanax arboreus is a tree species in the Araliaceae family, commonly known as the angelica tree. It is found in various regions of Colombia, including several national parks and reserves, as well as in the West Indies. This species grows in a range of habitats, including thickets, rain forests, and limestone hills, at elevations between 260 and 900 meters. It is distinguished by its alternate, elliptic leaves and inflorescences of umbels, with hermaphrodite and andromonoecious flowers.

Description

Dendropanax arboreus is a tree that can reach heights of 3 to 15 meters. Its branchlets are slightly striate when dry, and the leaves are spirally arranged, with petioles 1 to 10 cm long. The leaf blades are 8 to 17 cm long and 2.1 to 8.8 cm wide, with a cuneate to acute base and an acuminate apex. The inflorescences are racemes of umbels, often terminal, with hermaphrodite flowers that have five petals and staminate flowers. The receptacle length helps distinguish hermaphrodite from andromonoecious inflorescences. This species is found in the West Indies and parts of Colombia, growing in moist and tropical forests.
