angel's trumpets
Acleisanthes longiflora A.Gray

Acleisanthes longiflora is a species in the Nyctaginaceae family, commonly known as angel's trumpets. It was first described by A. Gray in 1853 and is native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The species is typified by a lectotype designated from a specimen collected in Texas by Wright in 1849. The original protologue cited multiple collections, but the current accepted type is based on Wright 310, as clarified by subsequent taxonomic studies.
Description
Acleisanthes longiflora was published by A. Gray in 1853, with the protologue citing several collections including Wright 599, Wright 1704, Riddell, Lindheimer, and Gregg. The exsiccatum no. 599, however, combines two original specimens, Wright 928 and 310. Smith (1976) designated the right-side specimen of GH 00037284 (Wright 310) as the holotype, but this was corrected to a lectotype under the ICN. The accepted lectotype is Wright 310, collected in Texas, and is housed at GH. The species is distributed in Arizona, California, Mexico Northeast, Mexico Northwest, New Mexico, and Texas. It belongs to the Nyctaginaceae family, also known as the four o'clock family.
