Ephedra trifurca, known as American Ephedra, is a species in the Ephedraceae family. It is native to regions including Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, and parts of Mexico. The plant was first described in 1871 by Torr. ex S.Watson.

Ephedra trifurca is a member of the Ephedraceae family and is commonly referred to as American Ephedra. It is found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, particularly in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, and the northeastern and northwestern parts of Mexico. This species was formally published in 1871 under the authorship of Torr. ex S.Watson. It is also known by the common names longleaf jointfir and Mexican tea.
