Agave americana, known as American agave, is a species in the Asparagaceae family. Native to Mexico and Texas, it is cultivated globally for ornamental purposes and has naturalized in regions such as the Mediterranean, South America, and parts of Asia and Oceania. It was first described in 1753.

It is widely grown for its ornamental value and has become naturalized in many areas, including Southern California, the West Indies, the Mediterranean Basin, Africa, the Canary Islands, India, China, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia. The plant is also found in regions like Açores, Madeira, and several Portuguese islands. It is known by common names such as century plant and maguey. Its broad distribution includes areas such as Tuluá, SFF Iguaque, TW, TN, LK, HR, Belgium, the Walloon Region, BR, and PW.
